Motherlode Sutra

Into the world came Motherlode, Perfectly Enlightened One,
Possessor of patience, wisdom, knower of the world, dishwasher and
Nurturer of child and nurturer of child, soother of beings, foundation for
Living, tireless worker.

At this time there was a mortal, Riverside Shinchi; she came upon
Motherlode, the Perfectly Enlightened One, possessor of patience,
Wisdom, knower of the world, dishwasher, and nurturer of child and
nurturer of child, soother of beings, foundation for living, tireless worker.

Riverside Shinchi touched the ground She walked upon; she walked around
Her seven times; she kissed Her feet, and in praise of this Buddha, Riverside
Shinchi began this song:

A rainbow of color glows from Her, shining on all in exquisite exaltation,
All become great inside the glow of Her rays;

Her countenance is beyond understanding and beyond compare;

In Her frailness is the strength of tempered steel, the sharpness of
Polished diamond;

From Her withered hands comes the touch of silk;

From Her depleted bones, that have birthed a billion billion babies,
Comes the swiftness of a cheetah, as She rescues us from danger’s way;

She meditates, ponders, and thinks deeply; Her words are the sounds of
The universe; Her answers sweet, bitter, sour, pungent, opulent, sufficient;

Her merit more vast than ocean, more omnipotent than air;

In Her massiveness resides tenderness so sweet it releases wellsprings
Of water, sprouts cornucopias of green and fruit.

I resolve to become like Her; I resolve to practice my discipline, to sit,
Become one with Her rainbow emanations; I resolve to become a Buddha
Oh holy mother of the Dharma, to care for living beings from birth to death,
Guide them to Rainbow emanations emancipation; my discipline and my
Practice shall equal and add to the unsurpassed glow; when I am Buddha,
I am a Great peace.

Riverside Shinchi said to the Buddha Motherlode, ‘Respectfully, World-honored One, I declare that I aspire for Enlightenment. I ask you, explain the Dharma, so that I can practice the way in Buddha-land adorned with infinite excellent qualities. Please teach me.
At that time, the Buddha Motherlode replied to the Riverside Shinchi, “You yourself know by what practice you can establish a joy-filled Buddha-land.” Shinchi said to the Buddha, “That is far too vast and deep for my comprehension.”
The Buddha Motherlode smiled.
